I took this photo from the side of the Denali Highway, several miles east of Denali National Park. We looked at several ponds but the rest were rippled by the breeze. Terry Boyd was our guide and knew about this pond and the likelihood it would have a smooth surface.Time
This was taken in the morning, at about 11:00.Lighting
We were disappointed that a fire had started nearby and caused hazy skies. One of the interesting things I find in this photo is that the reflected mountains are clearer than the original.Equipment
I used a Fujifilm finepix S1. There were no special lenses, tripod or flash.Inspiration
I had hired Terry Boyd to teach me how to be a better photographer. He showed me things about exposure settings, not using the auto mode and took us to several locations for taking photos.Editing
This photo is as it was taken. I tried some post-processing but found I could not improve on the original. In my camera bag
At the time I took this, I only carried spare batteries and digital storage. Since then I have added several ND filters as well as a polarizing filter. I like the ND filters for smoothing out water in streams.Feedback
Denali National Park and the surrounding areas is a great place for scenic photography and wild life. The Tundra Wilderness tour in the park is wonderful for seeing moose, caribou and bears. We also saw mountain goats and sheep. There is a wonderful view of Mt Denali, but it is a hit and miss proposition for a clear shot, especially in August. The Neenana River outside the park has many beautiful shots as well.
