Motif Number One is well known in the arts community in New England and beyond… The little red lobster shack on Bearskin Neck on Rockport Harbor is revered by the townspeople. It’s located in Massachusetts, on Cape Ann on the North Shore of the Boston area. Tourists, artists (and photographers!) from around the world come to immortalize this iconic scene. Each in their own personal way…

Here I took an sunrise shot with the sun to my back, roughly a straight on view of the shack. And as you can see juiced it up quite a bit in Photoshop. – Oversaturated the colors, added couple ‘grunge’ layers, and some extra brightness to sky and foreground. And then added some antique-ish lettering to make it a vintage take as a poster.

A bit of Motif #1 history – the original building was built in 1840, as Rockport wqs just becoming an artist colony. The town of Rockport bought it in the 1940s as a monument to local military veterans. The original building was totally destroyed in the big Blizzard of 1978. But was rebuilt exactly as it was that same year - even to the ‘weathered-looking’ red paint… It is a cherished icon by both locals and artists worldwide. Photographers too!… Ddefinitely worth a day trip up to Cape Ann, if you’re ever in the Boston area.
