At the time of this image we lived in eastern Massachuseetts (in Acton, a western Boston suburb). One day I was on my way to run some errands after work. We lived in a condo near a small lake (in Mass. often called a pond). The main road (Route 2A) goes right by the lake…

It was dusk on a coolish fall day. The diminishing light was turning red. I saw the view. WOW!The lake was perfectly calm (VERY unusual!). There was a low ground fog bank in the distance (I found out is called ‘radiation fog’). The sky was nearly perfectly clear (only a few small cloud wisps)… I turned right around, and went back home to grab my camera and tripod. I shot a full roll of Kodachrome before the light totally disappeared. A totally exhilarating half hour!…

I bracketed my shots at different focal lengths, slightly different angles, I didn’t even have time to add filters – the colors were changing in front of my eyes!… This is just one of the images. I punched up the slide scan only very slightly in Photoshop.
