This is Nauset Light Beach in the Cape Cod National Seashore. It was taken in the fall a couple decades ago before the light was moved back from the eroding shore. And, if I'm remembering correctly, my tripod was in the water… And it was cold!…

Thanx Terry. This midwestern guy has loved the coast since my (Cape Cod born) wife took me to the CC National Seashore the summer we met… over 50 years ago...

Location
This shot was taken at Nauset Light Beach on the Outer Beach of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It is within the boundaries of the Cape Cod National Seashore, in town of Eastham. If you are ever in the southern New England area, I strongly recommend a visit to CCNS. Many fantastic diverse photo opportunities at any time of day any time of year.Time
This is one of my favorite times to shoot on the Cape (or any beach/shore ANYwhere). The last few minutes of direct light and (even) perhaps an hour (or sometimes two!) afterwards… If there is any cloud cover at all, I often wait until all the color is completely gone from the sky (you never know what might happen)...Lighting
There was a slightly pinkish dusk this day, but, admittedly, I added a light magenta filter too.Equipment
This was shot back in film days, with my trusty Nikon F2 with 28mm lens. On my old Gitzo tripod. – set up right in the water. I took off my shoes and rolled up my jeans (they got wet anyway…). It was a quite bracing – if I remember correctly, it was October! A quick warning – I often went into the salt water with my fairly heavy (aluminum) tripod. And even though I disassembled and rinsed when I shot in water, eventually the salt won the battle… The legs finally got permanently jammed...Inspiration
Simply an off-season a dusk walk along the Cape shore (less people). Waves are usually best/highest right after a storm passes. Note that there is one other person with similar feeling (seen near the base of the cliff).Editing
Nope, just cropped to vertical. In my camera bag
These days my regular bag has my Nikon D200 with a few zoom lenses. And a Gitzo Ocean (corrosion-resistant carbon fiber) tripod... I have been a Nikon fan since college, when I rented one in 1968 (first time ever using an SLR) to do a school project – shot 20 rolls of film and every single slide came out perfect!… The F2 was my favorite film camera for many years - I think went thru three or four of them... Now a D810 is on the horizon… Full frame and more info on the file is always the way to go.Feedback
Go where you love. At the best light. Don't be afraid to get involved, and even get wet… And take care of your tripod!...
