Location
This photograph was taken during one of my weed-pulling days.Time
This was probably around mid-afternoon.Lighting
I used the natural lighting and the subject is backlit to give more definition to the textures of the caterpillar, flowers, and leaf.Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel xsi and 18-55mm lens with a low f-stop to create a nice depth of field.Inspiration
I was actually pulling weeds and I always take my camera with me just in case I see a funky looking bug, or something cool. There were two of these guys that I found, but lost the first one and by surprise I found another. This made my day! My daughter was with me and I asked her to put the caterpillar on a different plant for a prettier picture. I photographed this little guy for quite awhile and this was the best shot that I came up with in my opinion.Editing
I did a tiny bit of post-processing on this image. I only increased the contrast of the caterpillar's head for more definition. The rest is natural. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon Rebel xsi, 18-55mm lens, 75-300mm lens, and my tripod.Feedback
My advice for capturing a crawly critter is to spend time in your yard and take your camera with you. You never know what you will find.
