Location
This is a photo of the Helix Bridge in Singapore.Time
It was shot around 8pm.Lighting
This was all natural lighting from the scene.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D800, Nikkor 28-70 f/2.8 lens, and I used a cell phone to prop up the lens while balancing the camera on a ledge.Inspiration
I walked around a corner and this angle of the bridge just jumped out at me. I was under the bridge on pathway right by the water. I knew I wanted a low iso so I needed a longer shutter speed. I didn't bring a tripod but knew that I had to set up my camera, somehow. There was a ledge on the path I was on that separated me from the water. I decide to put the camera on the ledge and prop the lens up with my cell phone. I put on the self timer so I could hit the shutter release and allow the camera to stop shaking before it made the exposure. I held my hand centimeters away from the camera, in case the shutter movement made the camera shake enough to start to fall into the water below. It was a tense situation and I was able to get this image out of it. Super proud of the outcome.Editing
No, this shot is straight out of camera. May be the most perfect I've ever taken, haha.In my camera bag
I travel with a Nikon D800, D4, Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8, Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8, Nikkor 50 f/1.4, 2xSB 800s, and a Vello remote trigger.Feedback
Go out of your comfort zone. Walk that unbeaten path. Don't be afraid to try something only crazy people would try, like putting your camera on a ledge above water held up by a cell phone. Pro tip, though, insure your gear. I've broken gear being experimental. Thankfully, I was fully insured. Get out and shoot!
