Location
I took this photo in Amsterdam on a cold and grey winters day.Time
It was about 2 pm.Lighting
A grey Dutch winters day has little shadows because the sun is hidden behind a blanket of greyish clouds.Equipment
I took this photo with my little miracle Lumix DMC-TZ-100, an intelligent pocket camera with a nice Leica lens.Inspiration
If you have ever been to Amsterdam you must have seen the canals, old houses, bicycles and boats. In this photo I wanted to show all of these typical Amsterdam subjects. I was specially captured by the milk can at the side of the bicycle, too Dutch or too much, haha! The colors, the puddle of rain and to finish the composition... the word water written on the boat; Amsterdam!Editing
I did little post processing in Lightroom to brighten up the colors a bit for some contrast with the grey sky.In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand photography first...Feedback
To capture an image like this is all about being aware of your surroundings, just look around you and be bewondered about the beautiful lively world we are living in, see the possibilities for a nice capture behind every corner. When I walk through a city or anywhere else, I allways look around me very carefully to see the details of wich the world around me is build up. I try to look through a pinhole, without forgetting the whole picture. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realise what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... In this case I saw all the aspects of Amsterdam together in just one frame! I choose a low perspective to make the photo more intimate. Once you get home and open your laptop, the magic of today's world begins... I allways crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
