Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Enkhuizen (Holland), my hometown.

Time

It was at the end of a summers day, sun casted nice long shadows.

Lighting

The late summer sun casted nice long and sharp shadows on the pavement without beeing too strong to cause burned spots in the photo.

Equipment

I have a Lumix DMC-TZ60, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera...The best thing about this camera is that it has a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket.

Inspiration

I was walking home from the shops when I saw this shadow of a bicycle with a heart shaped saddle. It reminded me of my first love... we met riding together on a wonderful day in spring, long time ago. Memories are like shadows, unreachable but allways close to you.

Editing

I did a little post-processing in Lightroom to add more contrast and I cropped it.

In my camera bag

I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...

Feedback

If you want to take a photo of a shadow with a story, you have to take some time to find the right composition. I was captured by the heart shape of the saddle and wanted it to stand out in the composition so I choose to place it within the rule of thirds, close to the center of the photo. Make sure no unwanted items are within the frame you want to photograph, it will distract the attention and ruin the composition.Crop and edit the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
