Behind The Lens

Location

Wadi Rum desert is worldwide famous for Lawrence of Arabia's deeds, as well as for being the stageset for movies like The Martian and others.

Time

Early morning is still cold but offers better views and fewer crowds compared with other times of the day.

Lighting

The light is already strong but the sun is still relatively low on the horizon, allowing the perception of wonderful sand patterns.

Equipment

Nothing more than my camera was needed for this shot (apart from warm clothes, maybe).

Inspiration

As soon as our driver Abdullah kneeled to contemplate his desert, I asked him not to move. He offered to turn towards the camera for the most classical tourist photo, but this was not what I had in mind: the shot was so natural! Nothing had to be changed in it!

Editing

No post-processing is needed when nature is at her best.

In my camera bag

My tripod was not even necessary, given the quantity of available sunlight.

Feedback

Elaborate shots might be beautiful, but difficult to achieve. Capturing the best of nature is often easier and offers great results.
