Behind The Lens

Location

Costa Rica is a heaven for plenty of animal species (though this might mean hell for some!).

Time

Tough most animal species are most active at dawn and dusk, reptiles, being cold-blooded creatures, tend to be more lively in the central hours of the day.

Lighting

Light is abundant around noon, making it easier to capture the scene in detail.

Equipment

A small zoom lens is needed to get close enough to the scene in safety.

Inspiration

Snakes do not eat often. This involves a lot of patience. But the shot is rewarding, after a fair waiting time.

Editing

The original shot has been slightly trimmed, in order to concentrate on the scene, cutting away some excess vegetation around it.

In my camera bag

Nature shots do not necessarily need ad hoc equipment, apart from a zoom lens. But you have to pack a lot of patience!

Feedback

Do not try to get too close to the subject (not with this kind of subject, I mean). Use a zoom lens instead, which also helps to restrict the depth of field.
