Behind The Lens

Location

At 2.400 meters above sea level, Laguna Chaxa, in Norte Grande de Chile, is a natural wonder.

Time

Early morning is usually the best time to see wild animals, though noon is normally best for lighting. This shot was taken around mid morning, a good trade-off between the two mentioned aspects.

Lighting

The light was strong, creating optimal conditions to compensate for the possible slight camera shaking, since the flamingoes tend to keep at a distance from viewers.

Equipment

A tripod is od course useful, as is a skylight filter, due to the altitude of the lagoon, situated at the base of the Andes.

Inspiration

One of the most elegant animals in the universe, the flamingo keeps attracting photographers and birdwatchers. Add a location in a peaceful lagoon with Andes view and the picture is complete.

Editing

At least in this case, no post-processing can improve what mother nature has done.

In my camera bag

All I usually carry in my photographic travel bag was used in this composition: - Camera; - tripod; - skylight filter.

Feedback

To gain the (relative) confidence of the shy birds, it is mandatory to remain silent, move around slowly and avoid all camera "beeps".
