Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captured on a small outcrop of cliff called Breil Newk located between North Landing and the lighthouse at Flamborough Head in East Yorkshire, England

Time

This particular shot was captured at 21.09 on the 14th June 2015 one of the only 3 months you can actually capture a sunset on the east coast of the UK

Lighting

When I arrived at this location the sky was not looking very good nad I thought I was wasting my time but being quite obstinate and having plenty of patience I decided I would wait until after sunset to throw in the towel but fortunately once the sun dropped below the clouds I was rewarded with a superb sunset

Equipment

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF17-40mm f/4L USM, tripod, cable release, Lee 0.9 Graduated ND filter

Inspiration

Just to the left hand side of this location is a little cove with a stack a location I regularly visit for sunrise images in fact there is an image in my PF called Breill Newk taken from there, after that shoot I scouted the area looking for inspiration and found this place

Editing

minor tweeks to highlights, shadows ,Blacks and whites in lightroom export to photoshop to sharpen using high pass thats about it

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EOS 7D, EF17-40mm f/4L USM, EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM Lens, 0.3, 0.6 x2, 0.9 x2 hard graduated Lee filters, 0.6 ND filter, Big Stopper, Little Stopper, Circular polariser, landscape circular polariser, hot shoe spirit level, manual white balance card, misc cleaning products

Feedback

Patience and maybe being a bit obstinate is paramount for landscapes it seems to be a case of preperation careful planning and then its a waiting game hoping that everything falls into place I derive great pleasure from the waiting game that is 'landscape photography
