I captured this image on Hornsea's North beach a location I visit when I'm feeling lazy as the car park is a two minute walk from this stunning location, it is a beautiful place and full of photo opportunitiesTime
I remmember this quite well because I had arranged to meet another photographer in the car park at 5:30am but I arrived half an hour earlyer so i could scout arround for the best location and this image was shot at 5:58am when the light was at its bestLighting
I used a two stop ND filter and a circular polariser to slow the shutter speed to 2 seconds at f/13 and a two stop hard graduated ND filter over the sky to balance the exposureEquipment
Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF17-40mm f/4L USM, tripod, cable release, Lee 0.6 Graduated Neutral Density filter and two stop Neutral Density filter and Circular PolarizerInspiration
I just loved the trails of water being diverted by the pebbles with such wonderful lightEditing
First it was imported to lightroom to set the camera profile and correct some lense distortion before reducing the highlights a fraction and lifting the shadows Ithen set Black and white before making a slight s shape in the tone curve a sharpen and a little noise reductionIn my camera bag
Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EOS 7D, EF17-40mm f/4L USM, EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM Lens, 0.3, 0.6 x2, 0.9 x2 hard graduated Lee filters, 0.6 ND filter, Big Stopper, Little Stopper, Circular polariser, landscape circular polariser, manual white balance card, misc cleaning productsFeedback
Trial and error is a key part in water motion shots because no two waves are the same and a very sturdy tripod helps especially when that rogue wave catches you out, timing is everything this shot I waited until the wave had peaked and the bulk of the foam had retreated before shooting just catching the last part of the backwash before the next wave came crashing in
