Location
This is a small cove called North Landing at Flamborough Head a place I visit regular and know really well in fact I have a guide to Flamborough Head on my website here; https://phillg.photium.com/guide-to-flamborough-headTime
I had been to another area of the headland to shoot sunrise and was on my way back and saw the sun was just starting to hit the left hand cliff face so I dropped down and set my camera so it was just sitting above the back of this old boat and this was captured at 06:47amLighting
This shot was all about the light and trying not to overexpose the part of the cliff that was bathed in sunlightalso there were no waves so I used a Little stopper ( 6 stop ND filter) to slow the shutter speed down to a minuteEquipment
I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with the EF17-40mm f/4L USM mounted on a tripod with a cable release, Lee filter holder with the little stopperInspiration
To be honest I had seen a similar image on facebook but it looked like it had been captured from inside the boat and I wanted to do my take on it when I arrived I quite liked the view from behind the boat using the two wooden blocks to frameEditing
First it was imported to lightroom to set the camera profile and correct some lense distortion before reducing the highlights a fraction and lifting the shadows I then set Black and white points before making a slight s shape in the tone curve a sharpen and a little noise reductionIn my camera bag

I think knowing the area you are going to is a big advantage also having an open mind as I had gone out to a different location and was on my way back to the car when I noticed the beautiful light that attracted me to this location
