Totally agree with your coment, I dont know why this image was picked to be featured it is not one of my best personally I think the sky is bland and I dont like the cyan cast in the front half of the sea

Behind The Lens

Location

This is a cliff formation is nicknamed the drinking dinosaur and is located at Flamborough head near the lighthouse, The best time to shoot this scene is at high tide to capture the water motion around the arch

Time

After an early rise and drive to Flamborough Head I was initially dissapointed that there was hardly any cloud but loved the crashing waves in this little cove i captured this image at 06:12 am just as the sun started to rise above the horrizon on March 16th

Lighting

Shooting into the sun is always a little tricky even when it is not at its strongest I used a Lee 0.9 and 0.6 hard grads to try and stop the highlights getting blown and used an apperture of f16 to create the sunburst

Equipment

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF17-40mm f/4L USM, tripod, cable release, Lee 0.9 and 0.6 Graduated ND filters and 0.6 ND filter

Inspiration

I arrived at flamborough head early and decided to check this spot out before heading to the beach as I have photographed this location many times and on this particular morning despite there being a lack of cloud the waves were looking really photogenic so I set everything up and began the waiting game that is landscape photography

Editing

First it was imported to lightroom to set the camera profile and correct some lense distortion before reducing the highlights a fraction and lifting the shadows I then set Black and white before making a slight s shape in the tone curve and a little noise reduction then exported to photoshop to clone out any dustbunny's and sharpen using a high pass

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 5D Mark III with the EF17-40mm f/4L USM and a Canon EOS 7D with the EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM Lens, 0.3, 0.6 x2, 0.9 x2 hard graduated Lee filters,a set of soft grads and a set of hitech reverse grads 0.6 ND filter, Big Stopper, Little Stopper, Circular polariser, landscape circular polariser, manual white balance card, misc cleaning products

Feedback

Careful Planning and preparation such as looking at images from the area on the internet always make things easier on location and although I go for specific shots I always look around for different aspects or patterns that I can use in my images, I have been to Flamborough Head many times but the light is never the same twice I always like to get to a location early so if I am not happy with the location I planned to shoot theres always time for a plan B
