I love this shot, however, Gulls are not true pelagic birds and your submitted photo will not be considered for the Pelagic Bird Species Peer Challenge.

Location
I took this photo on a cruise ship in Alaska while touring the Glacier Bay National park.Time
As I recall it as mid-day and I was enjoying some time on the balcony of my stateroom.Lighting
As-is evident from the photo, it was cloudy and overcast at the time of the shot.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D with a kit lens, handheld and no other gear.Inspiration
As we were touring the bay, a large quantity of Seagulls swarmed the ship so I tried to coax them closer with some food. This required that hold food in one hand and the camera in the other which was quite tricky as the camera was quite heavy. I was shooting in fast mode so I got quite a few captures but this one was the money shot.Editing
I did some dodging and burning and some exposure adjustment. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 7D and multiple lenses, cleaning cloths, remote trigger, multiple batteries, and plenty of memory cards.Feedback
Always be ready to shoot. Have your camera ready to go at a moments notice and know the adjustments well. You rarely have the camera adjusted for that perfect shot so knowing the settings backward and forward will get you that wonderful image even when you have only a few seconds.
