Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in our home.

Time

It was about 4 PM.

Lighting

We have a kitchen with windows at two sides. The light that came through these windows and the opened door was just right for this photo.

Equipment

I have a Lumix DMC-TZ100, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera...The best thing about this camera is that it has a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket. I didn't use any extra equipment, I took the photo spontaniously free out of hand.

Inspiration

We went to a biological farm that morning to pick some vegetables ourselves. Along with the vegetables we picked from from our own garden it looked like a nice picture. So before my wife was going to make a delicious soup of it, I decided to make a nice composition of it all. I gave my wife a good glass of red wine and started!

Editing

I did a little post-processing in Lightroom to emphasize the colors and textures.

In my camera bag

I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...

Feedback

If you want to take a photo like this one, try to create a simple composition with a neutral background. This composition is based on the rule of thirds and triangles. I choose the different vegetables according to color and shape to create a nice and balanced composition. Avoid the direct sunlight because it creates hard highlights and dark shadows. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realize what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... And most of all, take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one, once you get home and open your laptop when the magic of today's digital world begins... I always crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
