It was pretty much in the middle of the day. The weather wasn't cooperating well as it was grey and dull but somehow I manage to capture this one frame and it all just came together. The light, the colorful houses, the people in the street on the other side, the water reflection etc.Lighting
It was a tricky light. Normally I would say that grey is better than bright sunlight. But it was just grey and dull this afternoon. But for one moment I managed to capture this one image that spoke to me and made me want to spend time on it.Equipment
Nikond D750, 24-70mm nikkor and Andersson polarizing filter to enhance the colors.Inspiration
This is a classic scene to photograph in Copenhagen. It is seen in several movies, it's a classic harbor and tourist spot. It's photographed but millions of people but I always try to find a new angle or view of something common.Editing
Yes, I added HDR to it afterwards. Just to enhance the details. I try to be careful when turning a regular photo to HDR. Most the time people crank the levels too much, .I want it to stay as natural but with a little push, as possible. In my camera bag
All Nikon, camera bodies, lenses ranging from 10mm to 500mm, tripods, flash sb-700 and a few filters.Feedback
Photographing something this photographed is a challenge indeed. I was just hoping for the light, the angle the scene to come out different to make my photo stand out. I think I managed fairly well with the task. It's "same but different" and the compliments I get tells me I did something right. I'm happy about it. My suggestion is to kneel down, climb up on something. Place the camera completely straight in front of the scene. Too many people want to capture the whole street instead of focusing on what's captivating for the eye and mind. I not only photographed the colorful houses, I captured a scene with lovers sitting close on the dock, a car, people eating at the outdoor serving restaurants etc. Not to mention the silhouettes of birds in the sky. It's a moment, rather than a photo. Find your own angle and go for it.
