The open road we all crave, for some, it is not enough. There are a few among us who need to tame a drop top beast built of steel and full of fiery fury. Only after being fed and trained, may the low, menacing growl under foot roar into rage at our command. It's intensity and power invigorates our soul at the deepest of levels. It frees us from our daily confines and leaves the past in a cloud of tire smoke, gravel and dust. This demonic companion of ours happily bites us into unknown territories, salivating to conquer many more miles to come.

Love the fact that this old rust bucket is just entering the frame - It may be old, but it has places to go and things to see.

This photo was taken during a classic car show in Falköping, Sweden 2016. I was there to scout for stories to write as I freelance as a reporter/photographer for classic car magazines. I saw this Oldsmobile cruising by and I just LOVED the patina and wanted to take the perfect photo of it. Afterwards I was asked why I didn't photograph the whole car and I said: This car has been around the block but it's still going somewhere. That's my story.Time
I think about 3pm (15:00) in the afternoon.Lighting
It was a tricky light this day. One minute the sky was covered in clouds, one minute later the sun lit up the whole area and then it got cloudy again. The light shifted very quickly so this was as much luck as great timing.Equipment
Nikon D7100 and nikkor 24-70mm, handheld sitting on the ground next to the road.Inspiration
My heart and brain went crazy when this rusty classic came over the hill and rolled down my way. The sky was just right, the background was perfect - it was just the right moment for the photo to be taken.Editing
The photo is cropped on top and under a smidge to get a more panoramic look. I used the dodge and burn tool in PS CS6 to give the image more depth (you can see the toned parts). There was a pole or something in the middle of the shot that I removed by cloning but that's about it.In my camera bag
I have a small and a big camera bag. But what I normally use ("in every day photo life") is the Nikon D750 and 24-70mm, tripod, remote release and ND filters.Feedback
Practicing panning is a good idea for capturing moving vehicles. I go the the nearest highway and practice panning all the time, using different lenses as they each seem to work differently, to get to know them. Next step is to go to a car show located in a pretty area. This particular one in Falköping is at a small airport surrounded by farmland, giving me a nice, clean background to work with.
