Captured in: Cape Hatteras National Seashore,
Dare, NC.
Pictured here is what's known as the Oregon Point lifesaving station, just as another beautiful day had come to a close along the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
This is actually a rather historic facility built way back in 1897 by the United States Life-Saving Service. It was chartered as the first of seven life saving stations that would support ships in distress in the notoriously rough North Carolina waters.
This station house was remodeled back in 1933 and 1970, but was eventually replaced in 1990 by a more modern station on Pamlico Sound. As the new facility was being made operational, the Coast Guard decided to vacate this site, and turn control back over the local county. The property is now under the care of the North Carolina Aquarium.
The structure remains abandoned today, but is in remarkably good shape despite being all boarded up. The building itself is one and a half stories tall, built on a rectangular frame, and has the old lookout tower used by the Coast Guard back in the day.
In the distance you can also see the new Bonner Bridge which spans the Oregon Inlet Channel, and runs 2.8 miles to connect Bodie Island to Pea Island.*

"Oregon Point Sunset" is a blended HDR image that was processed using a combination of ACR, Aurora HDR, Photoshop and various Topaz Labs Plugins (Adjust, AI Clear, Denoise, Glow, and Impression).
The HDR image was assembled using 5 separate bracketed shot that were +-- 1 stop in between each of the images.
