Location
This photo was taken in The Great Smoky Mountains area called Cades Cove. This is the John Oliver Cabin, one of the first stops in the Cades Cove loop.Time
The shot was taken in the late morning hours.Lighting
This was a mid April day and very overcast. Rain or possibly snow flurries were in the forecast. Lighting was very flat.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D5100 and I am thinking a Nikon 18-140 zoom lens.Inspiration
I love this cabin and the whole Cades Cove area of the Smoky Mountains. This was a spring day and the dogwoods were blooming. Since it wasn't the nicest of days and early in the tourist season there was no one around. This gave me more freedom to take my time and get a number of different shots without people in the scene. This allowed me to create the look I wanted.Editing
heavy post processing. This is an HRD image that I tonemapped in Photomatix. In my camera bag
This image was taken some time ago and my equipment has changed quite a bit since then. I now carry a Nikon D7500 and a D7200. I have a nice Nikkor 80-400mm zoom, wide angle 10-24mm, as well as the 16-80mm zoom that I took this shot with. I carry a Sirui tripod for when I travel. I should use it more than I do.Feedback
I took advantage of the fact that I was in a location that is usually pretty busy with people and there was just no one there that day. So I took my time. I didn't try and fight the fact that the lighting was flat and the sky was grey. I tightened up my frame and didn't go for getting the sky in the image. I wanted to focus on all the textures of the cabin, fence, grass and trees.
