Location
The photo was taken from a tour boat in Prince William Sound Alaska in early June.Time
It was approximately midday. The weather was pretty bad. Cold (as usual), cloudy and rainy.Lighting
Lighting was very flat with heavy clouds and in my mind it was awful In hindsight maybe it was perfect, depending on how you looked at it. From a sightseeing standpoint it was bad. From a photography standpoint it lent itself to some unique shots.Equipment
Nikon D7200. I was shooting with a D7200 and D7100 that day. This photo I had a Nikkor 18-140mm kit lens.Inspiration
I just thought the little islands were unique as we passed them. Loved the mountains with the clouds in the background. You can see a little of the snow on the mountains. As rough as the terrain and conditions are these trees still found a way to grow and sustain themselves. The truth is this wasn't my shooting target for the day. We were on our way to a glacier and that was my target.Editing
I tonemapped this shot with Photomatix Pro.In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D7100 and a D7200. I have a nice Nikkor 85-400mm zoom, wide angle 10-24mm, as well as the 18-140mm zoom that I took this shot with. I carry a Sirui tripod for when I travel. I should use it more than I do.Feedback
This was just an opportunity I stumbled upon as we were cruising to a glacier (which was my desired target). I took lots of shots. I was only there for a few hours and the weather was what we got, so I had to work with what I had. The beauty of digital is take lots of shots with different f stops and shutter speeds. You can always delete the bad ones.
