Location
This shot was taken somewhere in the Caribbean while on the Cruise Ship Royal Princess. This was the final day of a Caribbean cruise.Time
The shot was taken early morning just as the sun was rising.Lighting
I had just stepped out on the balcony of our stateroom and realized we were about to have a very colorful sunrise and I was also pretty sure the peak color was about to happen and it wasn't going to last long. I didn't like the view from our balcony so I grabbed one of my cameras and raced up to the pool deck and was able to get this shot at the peak of the color. If I had been just a minute or two later I don't think I would have gotten a shot nearly as nice as this one. I didn't even take the time to try and set up the tripod.Equipment
Nikon D7200 and a Nikkor 18-140mm kit lens.Inspiration
Just the simple beauty of the sunrise colors.Editing
HDR conversion with Lightroom and some slight color adjustments. In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D7100 and a D7200. I have a nice Nikkor 80-400mm zoom, wide angle 10-24mm, as well as the 18-140mm zoom that I took this shot with. I carry a Sirui tripod for when I travel. I should use it more than I do.Feedback
I think this shot was more about being in the right place at the right time. We had had 8 other sunrises during the trip and all were very flat and just not worth shooting. Then the last morning this happened. I was within minutes of missing the whole thing. The beauty of digital is take lots of shots with different f stops and shutter speeds. You can always delete the bad ones.
