I took this photo in Parma in an area where old disused locomotives are storedTime
it was late at night, but there was a moon, so we used artificial lighting techniques to make the light more interesting.Lighting
In this photo I have adopted the light painting technique. While the car took a long exposure, I painted the light on the train with a LED flashlight.Equipment
It's a photo from a couple of years ago. At the time I used the sony a7ii, which I still have together with the 7iii which fitted a 15mm voigtlander for leica adapted to the sony. Now for this type of photo I have the laowa 10-18 which is much more extreme, maybe I'll try to redo the photo.Inspiration
These abandoned trains in the middle of the plain are very evocative, so in my opinion it wasn't difficult to find interesting shots to take. Unfortunately they aren't in total darkness, otherwise I would have tried a milky way. In particular at that time I was experimenting with light painting to illuminate objects at night. In my opinion, this technique goes very well with this type of objects, in particular by staying more time with the torch you can give more depth to certain elements instead of others. it is a technique that I do not recommend to illuminate the close up with the Milky Way, in which low level lighting is betterEditing
In night photos, in my opinion , the correction of the color temperature is essential, which can be different between the background and the foreground. Then I love to correct the colors to give more liveliness and to do a little dodge and burn to give more three-dimensionality to my images. In my camera bag
I currently shoot with the sony a7iii which for me is the queen of the night. I believe that my night photos, especially regarding the milky way have undergone a real leap in quality with this camera. Then in my bag the wide angle is never missing. Lately I've been falling in love with laowa 10-18 which truly offers extreme views that I love. I also have the 16-35 f4 zony zeiss, while for the night photo I use speedy lenses like the samyang 35mm f1.4 or the sony 28mm f2, a cheap lens but which I find exceptional for how much it costs. A solid tripod and ND64 filter can never be missing.Feedback
For photography you don't have to be lazy. You have to shoot a lot, often alone or with people with the same passion and go out just to take pictures. I have never taken good photos when I started not very determined and without any good idea in mind. it takes discipline and a little planning and possibly a good idea in mind. Then there is also luck, but it must be pursued.
