Location
The photo was taken in Fontanellato, a quaint village near my house, I live in Fidenza, Parma, Italy, the village is practically occupied for the most part by its characteristic Castle that I photographed here.Time
I remember very well when I took this picture, it was November last year and despite the autumn more than forward there was not so cold, but ... I decided to take a ride as the light promised well and in fact the sunset with the The coming storm was beautiful, with colors ranging from pink to purple to scarlet.Lighting
I'm looking for light as a surfer looking for the right wave and years of experimentation have taught me that the sunset and the coming storm can give the most exciting lightsEquipment
I used a tripod manfrotto pixie about 20cm high, resting on the wall that runs along the moat of the fortress of Fontanellato, the lens is the samyang 14mmf2.8 nikon attack, attacked through adapter to my sony A7ii. No expensive optics for this photo, the samy is a lens that can be found at € 200 but that for what it costs, is in my opinion, exceptional.Inspiration
with that light I knew I needed the right spot and I knew that fontanellato offers r'tante things ... the moat surrounds 360 ° the castle and you can take pictures in every direction, there is the water all around, the birds they turned low making large swirls around the castle because they always do when it is about to rain, the moment seemed magical, I was lucky, but also good to be there.Editing
I always do a bit of post processing to my photos, but I always know where I want to get when shooting. I act on the color enhancing the tones of the photo, on the tonal contrast, I usually apply a digital sloping filter, which I now find much more practical than the physical one. I exalt the lights and darken the shadows when I consider it necessary. In my camera bag
It depends on what I want to photograph, for the landscapes that are my favorite subject I have my A7II, the sony 16-35 F4 the ND filter and a good tripod, sometimes I use the samy 14mm f2.8 when I need a corner of the field wider or higher brightness. For portraits I often use vintage lenses like the helios 40 or the takumar 50mm f1.4 or the zeiss biotar 58mm, I love the particular boken.Feedback
Landscape photography requires a minimum of planning, or you are lucky and randomly catch an exceptional light or I try to guess the weather, usually storm clouds (but in the right amount because too many cover the sun completely) and sunset (even half an hour later sunset) guarantee the most exciting results
