Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on Singleton Blvd in Downtown Dallas Texas, while driving under the support for the Margaret Hunt bridge (nicknamed Large Marg bridge by the locals, it's a pretty big landmark) - please note I wasn't the one driving!

Time

This would have been taken late afternoon, with the support wires throwing some interesting shadows

Lighting

it was a rather clear day with harsh lighting, but that made for some stronger shadows so it was a win for me. It also made things bright enough I could get the shutter fast enough to capture the shot while moving

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon 70D and Tamron 18-300mm lens. It was shot hand-held while moving, looking up through a Jeep with the top down

Inspiration

I had been exploring a nearby park and brewpub, and was just playing with the camera on the way home...

Editing

Other than converting to monochrome, all that was done was a bit of light correction in LightRoom

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon 70D with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted for a 'ready for anything' setup. If I'm going for something specific I'll also carry a 5D Mk III and whatever lens fits what I want to achieve. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I often don't get to plan a lot of shots beforehand. However I've found the lenses that spend the most time on the 5D are various primes or Wide-Angle zooms. On the 70D I like the Tamron's range as it allows you to capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the open

Feedback

This wasn't really a planned shot, so just be aware of your surroundings, there's always something interesting to shoot if you look for it!
