Location
I took this photo in Davenport, California. I had been waiting for clear skies like this for a couple weeks. I have seen many awesome pictures taken here.Time
This was taken around 12 at night. The Milky Way was clearly present.Lighting
Shark fin cove has been photographed many times before. I wanted to create a picture no one has seen before. So I added a subject (me) and held the flashlight to add some originality."Equipment
I use the Sony A77ii with the standard Sony 15-50 lens. Also, I use a Manfroto tripod which I really enjoy. This was a 30 second exposure at F2.8 ISO 5000.Inspiration
I always wanted to capture an amazing picture of shark fin cove. I got some main angle shots but it has just been done too many times. So I went down on to the beach even though it was dark. I knew down there I would have a more original photo and I was able to capture the fin and Milky Way in the same picture.Editing
Lightroom :). I didn't use it for this image though. In my camera bag
I always carry my Sony a77ii with my standard Sony 15-50 lens and my Sony 70-300 lens. I usually use the wide angle for all my landscapes and the zoom for wildlife or particular spots of landscapes. Also, I have a lens cloth attached to my key chain. Hiking a lot leads to having to clean the lens a lot.Feedback
I think it's important to be original these days. I think we try and mimic our favorite photographers but it's our own unique perspective that allows us to portray something different. I think my cliche answer to is to follow your dreams and that voice in your head.
