Thank you to all the photographers that shared their best photos showing the use of light to capture a moment in time in the Time And Light Photo Contest with chances to win a Macro Lens and more!

A special thanks to friend and professional photographer Jan Kabili for her collaboration as a guest judge. Jan Kabili is a photographer and educator who is fiercely committed to helping people bring out the best in their photos with post-processing. Grand Jury Winner

"This photo stands out among the many other strong images because of its human element and the story the photograph implies. I couldn’t help but stop and wonder where this boy is, what he’s feeling, and why he’s looking to the light. The expression on the boy’s face, the smoky beam of light, and the dark background set a somber mood. The diagonal composition created by the beam of light is echoed by the boy’s gaze up and out of the photo. The light on the boy’s face and the rich red of his clothing draws attention to him as the focal point. The smoke in the beam of light adds texture and a sense of movement. All this comes together to make this a provocative photo that is worthy of the Grand Prize." - Jan Kabili

Runner Up

"This photo has an appealing dreamlike quality. There are elements to draw the eye around the entire photo: from the ghostlike movement of the woman’s dress in the foreground back through the layers of light in each room. There are lots of textures and patterns in this photo, all brought together by warm gold light throughout. Spending time with this photo reveals details that contribute to its rich storyline, like the bird on the floor in the far room and the model’s bar feet as she dances on the worn floor." - Jan Kabili

Runner Up

"What could be more evocative of the dual themes of this contest—time and light—than the stars filling the frame in this photo? The beauty of their natural light is offset by the diagonal beam of artificial light streaming from the house. The warm light from the windows contrasts with the cool light in the night sky. The old house suggests the passage of time and adds the important element of story, making this much more than another beautifully-done landscape photo." - Jan Kabili

Runner Up

"There is so much to see in this photograph. The warm light in the background complements the cool light in the foreground, and the action in both locations causes the viewer’s eye to move back and forth between the scenes. The subject matter (“repair of heating duct”) may be mundane, but the photograph certainly is not. It’s unique and moody, with a touch of the surreal that propels it to its status as one of my favorites." - Jan Kabili
