Hi Janet, I am a fan of stain glass windows as well. If you ever get to Chicago you would love the stain glass museum on the Navy Pier.

Behind The Lens

Location

I am an avid photographer and I shot this this beautiful stained glass window while on a historical tour of the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA. It is a wonderful place to learn about history and architecture. This beautiful piece of art is part the Lemp family mausoleum. The Lemp family was large part of the beer brewing legacy in Saint Louis in the 1800's. The family's great wealth and tragic history were an interesting part of the tour..

Time

I took this photo on a beautiful spring day at about 9:00 AM. This window is the only source of light in the mausoleum when the doors are closed.

Lighting

This photo was taken with the natural light of the sun shining through the window highlighting all the details in the the glass.

Equipment

This is a hand held shot using my Nikon P900 camera.

Inspiration

The Bellefontaine Cemetery is a wonderful place for me to explore. I am a fan of history, flowers, and art. The stained glass window is a great example of late 1800's art.

Editing

My Nikon P900 saves in JPEG. and I use Lightroom to do all my post processing. I used lens correction to straighten the window, set the white and black points, and adjusted the contract to bring ought more detail.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Nikon P510 & P900 cameras with which I can easily take macro to telephoto shots. I keep a set of filters including UV, CPL, FLD and Neutral Density. I also carry two 8 x10 pieces of foam board. One is black and one is white on one side and aluminum foil attached to the other to affect the lighting. My backpack also has straps to carry my Manfrotto tripod.

Feedback

Look for unusual places to photograph. Explore areas outside your comfort zone. I would have never thought of exploring a cemetery.
