Location
I took this photograph in Belvidere Park which is centrally located in the heart of the downtown city of Enderby BC, near the Enderby Bridge and offers the best view of the Enderby Cliffs and the Shuswap River. Here you can walk along the Heritage Riverwalk path, paddle your canoe or kayak, float on a tube or simply enjoy a riverside picnic. While I lived in Enderby BC, this was my favorite place to go and take my little Chihuahua Chicklet for a walk while we socialized and took photographs. This beautiful river pond is teaming with wildlife. Birds that you will commonly see nesting, eating and flying in Enderby BC and in the Belvidere Park are the Canada and Snow Geese, The Great White Heron, Mallard Ducks. Ring-Necked Pheasants, Belted Kingfishers, Humming Birds, American Robins, Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Osprey, Marsh Hawks, Great Horned Owls, Pygmy Owls, Ravens, Turkey Vultures, Cranes, Green Turtles along with other wildlife such as Beavers, Squirrels, Yellow-Bellied Marmots, Skunks, Coyotes, Black & Brown Bears, White-Tailed Deer and River Otters.Time
This is one of my favorite photographs that I took during the fall of 2014. The time of day was mid afternoon sometime between 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m. The Shuswap River was calm and the ducks and geese were just lazing in the waters and soaking in the warmth of the autumn sun. I had just moved to Enderby BC and it was my first time taking a stroll with my dog Chicklet along Enderby's Heritage Riverwalk in Belvidere Park. I felt so excited when I looked around and saw all of the beautiful autumn scenery and landscape from one end of the park along the Shuswap River to the other. The vibrant red, orange and yellow colors of the leaves, the deep bright blue of the skies reflection in the river and site the Cliffs Mountains standing majestically over top gave me all the inspiration I needed for a perfect picture.Lighting
I was attracted to the lighting that was reflecting in. upon and from the Shuswap River. The reflections of the landscape and sky gave way to a brilliant festival of dancing autumn colors and mood.Equipment
This photograph was shot with a Samsung Galaxy S4 SG4-1337M iPhone with a 4150 x 3120 13 megapixel camera. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
What inspired me to take this photo was the vast and all around beauty of the autumn colors, the serenity of the ducks and geese wading in the calm cool river and the shimmery lighting of the autumn landscape, sky and mountains reflecting in the water. I saw and felt that this was the home and sanctuary where the ducks and geese safely gathered year in and out to live, eat and raise up their family's during the Spring and Summer months.Editing
No, I did not do any post-processing before or after taking this photograph. This is the actual photograph. In my camera bag
I have 2 other cameras that I interchange: A Nikon Coolpix P90 with 24X wide angel optical viabration which has a High ISO 6400 capability that gives me sharper results when shooting in low light or capturing fast moving subjects. It takes high-quality pictures with stunning color and sharpness. The vari-angle LCD will tilt and rotate out on a 90 degree angle enabling me to get those high and low-angle shots. The high resolution electronic view finder enables me to see through the lens in any lighting condition. I love to use this camera specifically for taking macro pictures because I can get really close to the subject without loosing sharpness and catching bokeh in the background. I like the D-Lighting that rescues dark and back lit images by improving brightness and detail where needed. My Nikon D5600 DSLR 24.2 MP with AF-P DX 18-55 mml Lens camera has similar features as my Nikon Coolpix P90, takes raw, sharp and crisp photos and the battery lasts for over 970 photos per charge. I love the fast shutter speed because it enables me to take a series of shots quickly of a subject. For example I can keep up with the movements and motions of a bird on a fence or bee on a flower and catch these moments quickly without any delay.Feedback
What I learned while I lived in Enderby BC was that the best times to catch the best and most awesome pictures at this location in the Belvidere Park and in the city was between 5:00 a.m - 7:00 a.m in the mornings and between 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m during the afternoons. The early morning hours offered the beauty and greatness of the sunrise. I had fun playing with the light and reflections of the sun on subjects and in the water. During the mid to late afternoon hours the lighting was perfect for sharp and crisp landscape photos whereby the lighting offered the ambiance of balanced and the perfect contrast of shapes, colors and mood.
