This was taken on Maui. I was visiting the Kula Botanical Gardens and a line of showers had just moved through.

Location
I took this photo in the Climatron, located in the Missouri Botanical Garden. I am an amateur photographer who enjoys both flowers and photography.Time
I enjoy going to the botanical garden early on Saturday mornings. I am usually there by 7:00 AM, which allows me to work with different lighting as I walk through the displays. I generally end my visit in the Climatron, which is a geodesic dome made of glass panels. By that time, it is late morning and the sunlight is coming through the glass, highlighting different tropical plants featured in the dome. On this trip, I found the beautiful orchids.Lighting
I took this photo using natural lighting.Equipment
I captured this photo using a Nikon Coolpix P510 camera using aperture priority.Inspiration
I really enjoy tropical flowers and the sunlight was highlighting these orchids bringing out the colors and the drops on the petals.Editing
I use Lightroom for post-processing. For this photo, I set the white balance and adjusted the shadows and highlights to bring out more detail. In my camera bag
The first thing in my backpack is one of my Nikon Coolpix cameras. Either my P510 or P900, depending what I am photographing. Next comes my set of filters: neutral density, circular polarizing, and ultraviolet. I also include my homemade foamboard reflectors. The last thing I hook to my backpack is my tripod.Feedback
Patients is a virtue when photographing flowers. You never know when a gust of wind will disturb what you are trying to capture. Take the time to preview the sight to get the best setting. Change your perspective by adjusting the height of your tripod or kneeling if doing handheld shots.
