Location
This photo was taken in Ust'-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan at the preschool orphanage during our trip there to adopt these two children. We are happy to call them family now.Time
We were able to visit the kids twice a day for several hours each time. This shot was taken during the morning visit.Lighting
The playground at the orphanage had many trees and this was taken in the shade of one of them.Equipment
I was using my Nikon D3x and a Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 lens.Inspiration
We were there to bond with our future children and part of the adoption process involved taking pictures and writing brief summaries of our visits each day to share with the judge and social worker in Ust'. We were there with two other American families and one couple from Spain. I photographed the kids that we were all adopting and gave copies to each of the new families and to the orphanage as well.Editing
Very little post production work was necessary for this image. In my camera bag
I carry the Nikon D3x body along with a Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8, a Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8, a Nikkor 105mm Micro f/2.8, a Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 and a 14mm f/2.8 Fisheye. I also have a Nikkor Flash unit, some reflectors and various sizes of circular polarizers.Feedback
For me it is fun just to sit back and let the kids do what they do and not really insert myself into the situation. That's why I was using the 80-200mm zoom. This way I can get a bit further away and out of the action and they forget that I am even there.
