I shot this near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. There are lots of different places to shoot these cute pups in that area.
Time
If I remember correctly this was shot in the late morning.
Lighting
Nothing special about the lighting other than it was a beautiful clear sunny day!
Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D3 and my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. No strobes or fill flash.
Inspiration
My daughter and her husband wanted to get some shots of their litter of Bassets before they got too big. So we took a little jaunt near where they live to see if we could get some nice shots of these little guys.
Editing
With these guys I really didn't need to do much post-processing other than to perhaps open up the shadows a little.
In my camera bag
My camera bag holds my Nikon D3 and an assortment of Nikkor lenses. I also keep extra Li-ion batteries for my camera and a handful of AA batteries. There is also a cloth to clean lenses and protective filters and a few granola bars just in case.
Feedback
With this shot the biggest thing you need is patience and a couple extra pairs of hands to wrangle the pups. I tried to find poses for them that made it harder for them to just run right away. So, when we got them in to place I had to shoot quick because they would only be there a few seconds at most. In the end it is worth the wait and patience.
