This shot was taken in my home studio on some Plexiglas that I had on a sweep table.Time
The time of day didn't really matter since it was taken in the studio with strobe lighting, however, it was in the morning as soon as I came back from the feed store with my new chicks.Lighting
I had a couple of Speedotron strobe lights pointed at the ceiling for a soft light on the chicks. The studio has tall ceilings and ll the walls are white so the light just bounces all around the studio creating a very soft light.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3 with a Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 lens. I also used a studio tripod and a wireless remote to trigger the flash.Inspiration
I had literally just brought the chicks home from the store and thought that it could be pretty cool to put them on the sweep table that I keep in my home studio for product shots. I liked the fact that the chicks were out of their natural environment and put in to a more commercial situation.Editing
I only did a little post processing work on the photo. Just the basic stuff and cleaning up the scratches on the table and the occasional poop on the table as well. Hahahaha. In my camera bag
I have my Nikkor D3 and an assortment of lenses such as the Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8, Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8, Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8, Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 micro and a Sigma 14mm f/2.8. I also have a loop for looking at images on my LCD outside and for checking the focus on the LCD. I have extra batteries for my camera body and some AA batteries for my wireless remotes and my Speedlight SB-910. I also keep some snacks in my bag for when I don't have time to get a proper meal.Feedback
This shot really was purely for fun. I kept the light open and airy because the chicks were going to be moving around a lot so I wanted the light to look the same from any angle as I moved to keep up with them. My tripod was on wheels so that I could easily move around the table but I also wanted to be ale to leave my camera quickly in order to keep the chicks on the table.
