what an awesome photo the comp is crazy good and the colors just wonderful. The only thing that in my amateur eye is the dark clump of growth in the upper right of the cave entrance. bravo zulu on the catch
I took this photo on a beach on Bali next to the Tanah Lot temple.
Time
It was late afternoon at around 4.30-5pm. The sky is really clear in Indonesia and allowed me to really capture the colours of the scene.
Lighting
All natural with a wide apeture and fast shutter speed.
Equipment
I shot this using a Nikon D3000 and an 8mm fish eye lens.
Inspiration
The beach is private and not accesible to tourists but I really wanted a shot from the small cave at the far end. I waited until there was a huge group of tourists and snuch down the rocks an onto the beach. I walked top the far end where there is a small cave with an overhang (thje cave is not very deep) and saw my shot. I quickly swapped to my fish eye lensand tried to align the composition with the curve of the cave. The footprints you can see are the ones I made before shooting/.
Editing
I imported the image into Lightroom and increaed the clarity and sharpness of the image to try and get more detail. I had very little time to take shots before I was spotted so had to settle for a fast shutter speed and op[en aperture as there was no time to set up a tripod. I also increaed the sauration and applied a slight vignette before exporting froim lightroom.
In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D7200 normally attached is an 18-300mm lens for street and people photography. I have a 10-20mm lens for architecture, both interior and exterior as well as an 8mm and a 6.5mm fish eye when 10mm leaves me wanting. I also have a 4.5mm circular fish eye for surreal shots although it doesn't get as much use as the other lenses. If i'm away I also carry a sigma 150-500mm lens for wildlife photography. Theres nothing worse than not having the lens for the job!! I have just purchased a 35mm F1.4 lens which I use for portrait and street photography. The wide aperture makes it excellent for night street photography.
Feedback
Try and find an overhang on a beach that isnt restricted. This will give you a lot more time to align and capture your shot. It would also give you a chance to mount a tripod and go for a longer exposure to get some smoke on the water. Dont just look at the obvious and if youre image doesnt look right through the viewfinder try and use your surroundings to create a natural frame.
