Behind The Lens

Location
This image was taken at the Snow Monoey National Park in Yudanaka a town of Nagano Province in Japan.
Time
It was early afternoon and as anyone who has been to asia will know the natural light inpart of the world is amazing for photography. The clarity of some of my images from this, my second visit were really great and required little editing.
Lighting
Its luck of the draw if you go in winter. I have been during a blizzard and on this trip it was much milder and which allowed for really tack sharp images. As ylecery photographer knows the weather is a lottery
Equipment
I shit this with a Nikom D7200 and an 18-300mm Nikon lens. I really live the flexibility of this lens and it's extremely versatile.
Inspiration
The baby snow monkeys are full of character and if you are patient they often display many human like emotions while the bare playing or relaxing. The innocence of his face makes this shot for me.
Editing
Very little, I ran the image in RAW format through photoshop and increased the cintreastband clarity a little. I then imported the image into Lightroom where u further tweaked the sharpness contrast and clarity as well as altering the vignette setting to bring focused to the centre if the image.
In my camera bag
I always carry an 18-300mm Nikon Lens attached to my D7200. I love ther versatility of the DC format and although they are not as spec heavy as the FX format the Barry of lenses available is a worthwhile tradeoff for me. If I am travelling I take all my gear, lenses included a Nikon 10-24mm for architecture and landscape shots as well as 2 fish eye lenses an 8mm option lens and a 6.5mm Samsung. These allow me to play with wide angles both indoor and out as well as create unique perspectives with a 4.5km circular sigma fish eye lens. For wildlife I also have a Sigma 150-500mm lens thay covers me when the 18-300mm isnt gettingme close enough. Finally I have a 35mm prime lens for portraits whichbhasna beautiful broken effect. Perfect for night portraits.
Feedback
Be patient, stick to one subject then move on. There are so many monkeys in the hot springs thay if you move your perspective around a lot you're bound to miss something. Find a subject sticm there for 30 seconds and if nothings grabbing you move on to the next. With animals you are trying to create a connection with them. Trying to capture heads and faces of animals close ups or head and shoulder equivalents really allow people that view your images to connect with the subject your shooting.
