Beautiful shot of a place that I LOVE! This scene no longer exists as Hurricane Maria and Matthew took these beauties from us. So sad! Thank you for this wonderful reminder of what once was....

Location
Now a Wildlife Management Area operated by South Carolina's Department of Natural Resources, "Boneyard Beach" on Edisto Island, SC is open to the public and continues to thrill your adventurous side as you experience an unspoiled land... Going to Botany Bay Plantation and the unique “Boneyard” beach provides you with an opportunity to step back in time and fall in love with the beauty of the Carolina's "Lowcounty". It seems the area is being over taken by the Atlantic Ocean, featuring these old oak trees clinging to the continent’s edge which make fantastic photographic features.Time
I hiked to this spot on Botany Bay beach early on a Spring morning. I had scouted out this tree the evening before and knew it would make a fantastic subject. The tide was up and added more seawater motion around the tree as the sunlit horizon flared in day break color... It all came together as I stood there in the cold surf-water: color, motion and trees.Lighting
I started shooting before the light from the sunrise was adequate. I did this to set-up and practice a few different compositions so that I was ready was the colorful morning sun lit the clouds up.Equipment
This shot was created with my Sony A77 on an old tripod because I was standing in the water. I also used a remote shutter release and constantly adjusted the shutter speed and timed the waves. I took several shots to get the water motion positioned just right. My lense of choice was my trusty Sony 24-105mm.Inspiration
The crazy cool trees in the water along with the challenge of water motion in the shot made me realize that it was hard to conceptualize how it would all turn out. And that can be very exciting!Editing
Mostly I had to dodge and burn the brighter sky and darker water because having my ND filters out was a nightmare with water droplets and sea spray. In my camera bag
Sony A7RII, Sony A77, Sony Lenses, Tokina 11-16, Cine Backpack, Cokin Filters (ND & Grads), Remote Shutter Release, Care & Clean Supplies, Lightning Trigger, Benro Tripod, Mini Tripod, CP Polarizers, Big Stopper, Extra Batteries & Cards, Cell Phone, Beanie Hat & Hand warmers, treats!Feedback
Don't be afraid to shoot many different exposures. Change up the composition, settings and just play. Especially with fast and dynamic scenes like storms or water motion etc. You never know what you might capture. Why come back with room on your memory card??
