Location
I took this while visiting my parents in Limoges, France. Their house has a chapel grounds right next to their property which has a river which runs across the bottom of the field. They have lots of horses at their property and my niece that lives there has 2 or 3 horses which she looks after, she's a real pro when it comes to horsey stuff!Time
This was taken early afternoon as I remember. The sun was behind the horse to one side. We had decided to go down to the river with the kids and some of the family so they could have a bit of a splash about. My niece Sophie brought her horse Tia down to cool off as it was a bit of a scorcher that day.Lighting
Natural lighting, just above to one side. It was a hot day and the water had a sparkle and glisten to it.Equipment
I used my trusty Canon 7D with my Sigma 18-250 lens. Hand held with a shutter speed or 1/125, so I'm really quite lucky that the detail I captured is there. I fired off about 3 or four shots when I saw the horse start to gather speed through the water and luckily I seemed to capture this.Inspiration
I work as an in-house photographer for an interior design e-commerce company and spend a lot of time photographing products in a particular way to emphasise shape, reflection, colour etc. and this visit to my parents was about de-stressing. One of the ways which I do that is by going out with my camera and just mucking about without any pressure for deadline or brief. I was taking my time and snapping away at random things, but wanted to get some nice shots of the family and thanks to my niece who had the idea of bringing her horse to the river and this one of the shots which I luckily managed to get.Editing
I did do a couple of bits and pieces such a photo filter to warm it slightly and upped the contrast and clarity a touch. I don't like to muck around too much, but just to enhance the shot.In my camera bag
Until my boss decides to give me a pay rise then I currently have my Canon 7D, Canon 50mm, Sigma 18-250, Tamron 24-70, Sigma 10-12 lenses. I also carry 2 Canon 430 ex ii flash guns, wireless triggers, filters and the odd bits and bobs. My camera bag is starting to get pretty heavy!Feedback
Get yourself a river! No, seriously I would advise just getting out and shooting, sometimes you have something in your mind that you want to go out and get, but sometimes taking your time and just enjoying the process can produce some great results.
