I took this at home in my kitchen using a fish tank which I had been paid for in exchange for some baby photos.Time
Later in the evening to reduce any unwanted light coming in. Also with the blinds down.Lighting
I used 2 Canon 430 ex ii flash guns with some card attached by rubber bands so as to block light from spreading onto the black background behind the tank.Equipment
I used my Canon 7D, the 2 flash guns as mentioned, also a set of Yongnuo wireless triggers and my Manfrotto O55XPROB tripod and my RC-1 remote control. Also required is 1 fish tank and a black back drop. Apart from this then I used my jungle cat like reflexes to fire the remote while dropping the lemon in the water! Takes a bit of practise to get your timing correct!Inspiration
I've seen this kind of shot around and always fancied having a go. I think next time I'll try it on white with some alternative objects.Editing
Just a bit of tidying to make sure to make sure there were no smears on the glass, and a wee bit of sharpening, but not much.In my camera bag
My work horse lens is the Sigma 18-250 F3.5-6.3 DC OS as this is great for a range of shots, next is my Canon 50mm 1.8 which is my favourite for portraits and then I've got my Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 for wide angle stuff. I also carry 2 Canon 430 ex ii flash guns and wireless triggers, filters and such. My bag does get heavy when you're carrying it for a while, but I always like to be prepared for a doing a range of stuff.Feedback
Since doing this last shot I have purchased a motion trigger and a sound trigger which I cant wait to try, as getting this one originally took some patience and a lot of trial and error. I would advise setting a time of 250th of a second at f9, using auto focus initially I used a prop to focus up the lens, then switch to manual for when you want to take the shot. Have a mop to hand and also I used a plastic covering over the camera to be on the safe side. Other than that, have fun and get creative!
