Location
This is a group self portrait of my little family. We live in Salisbury in the UK, and this was taken in our bedroom of our old house which we have moved since.Time
This was one of those lazy sundays where me, my fiance and daughter were having a relaxing one at home. This was taken in the late morning before we went to get breakfast.Lighting
The lighting for this was natural light through a large window on the right hand side which cannot be seen in the image but lights the back wall .Equipment
I used my Canon 7D which is getting on a bit now, although still serves me well, I would like to upgrade but I'll have to save some pennies first! My manfrotto 550 held the camera body with my tamron 24-70 2.8 attached. The shot is from low down, which the tripod is great for with the legs being able to spread out and change the central column to horizontal rather than vertical. I had to use a remote shutter release with a delayed timer of 2 seconds, as its me on the right hand side, and trying to get a shot where everything is correct with the positioning and that our faces couldn't be seen wasn't as easy as what people may think. I've since done this sort of shot for portrait sessions on home visits and it is a lot easier to be shooting with the camera in hand! So yeah, lots of jumping up and looking on the back of the camera and trying again, but eventually got there.Inspiration
I think I had seen a similar shot somewhere and wanted to try a take on it myself. Its one of my fiances favorite pics that I've done of our family, plus the bonus you cant see our ugly mugs (except our daughter Beau, she's a looker!)Editing
Yes, I don't like doing too much post processing as it takes away from the real. Although with this then there is a bit of a tweak with the colour and the vignetting. In my camera bag
My 7D, Canon 50mm 1.8, Sigma 10-20 3.5, Tamron 24-70 2.8 and Sigma 18-250 3.5 macro. I try to cover a wide range of focal lengths and so although my bag is heavy, compared to some people thats nothing. I'm a big fan of the Canon 50mm, that is a great lens and well worth the £90 or whatever it is to buy.Feedback
Tripod is a must! Remote control is a must! Either a wide lens or enough room to get back to frame up your shot properly. I struggled with trying to see through the viewfinder as the camera is in such a low position and there was not enough room for me to lay down and see properly. You need the camera as low as possible with your feet right on the end of the bed to try and avoid getting peoples bodies in the shot. Trial and error till you get it right!
