Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is taken in Onderdijk, the Netherlands on a freezing day in winter... My wife is smiling like it's a nice sunny day but we went home after half an hour with half frozen hands, LOL!

Time

It was about 1 PM when we went to this place to see the frozen lake: the IJsselmeer, the biggest natural lake of Europe.

Lighting

Nothing much to tell about the lighting, just a natural light outdoor shot.

Equipment

I have a Lumix DMC-TZ100, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a point and shoot camera... I don't like to carry extra equipment with me, I prefer the simple point and shoot photography. The best thing about this camera is that it has a Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket.

Inspiration

The contrast between the cold whites and blue tone with the warm red was the contrast I wanted to make: the cold lakeside with a warm person.

Editing

I did a little editing in Lightroom, a bit of color and highlights adjustments and I cropped the photo.

In my camera bag

I don't have a bag of equipment at all, only my Lumix DMC-TZ100, a wonderful intelligent automatic pocket camera which practically fits in my back pocket. It shows that you do not have to use expensive and big cameras to achieve nice results...

Feedback

If you want to take a photo like this one, just look around for the simple every day compositions... If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realize what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... And most of all, take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one, once you get home and open your laptop when the magic of today's digital world begins... I always crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
