Location
I took this macro in Bloemendaal, the Netherlands on a sunny winters day.Time
We where visiting a memorial site of world war 2 and I was surprised by the many types of mosses glowing in the cold sunlight at about 13.00 PM.Lighting
The sun stood low in the sky at this point in winter and lit the moss wonderfully as if it were on fire.Equipment
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ100, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a point and shoot camera... I don't like to carry extra equipment with me, I prefer the simple point and shoot photography. The best thing about this camera is that it has a Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket.Inspiration
I saw many forms of mosses growing on the old stones of the memorial site from world war 2, we were visiting that day. The sun fired up these moss seeds and I wanted to show the nice yellow and orange colors. When I looked through my camera I was surprised about the shapes I saw, resembling flames of fire. I decided to take a kind of abstract fire photo.Editing
I edited this image in Lightroom. I cropped it, and added a bit of saturation, that's all.In my camera bag
I don't have a bag of equipment at all, only my Lumix DMC-TZ100, a wonderful intelligent automatic pocket camera which practically fits in my back pocket. It shows that you do not have to use expensive and big cameras to achieve nice results...Feedback
If you want to take a photo like this one, just look around for the simple every day compositions... Many times I try to avoid the direct sunlight in a macro because it creates hard highlights and dark shadows, but in this case the sun created a nice colorful abstract image. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realize what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... And most of all, take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one, once you get home and open your laptop when the magic of today's digital world begins. I always crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
