Location
I took this photograph in Hopseided very north of Norway. It was middle of March. We were walking on skis 500 km already. 3 days later we ritched Nordkinn- the northernmost point of continental Europe. That night we decided to pitch the tent on the slope to avoid cold air on the botomn of the valley. At the evening we were observing northern lights. It was very cold and then weather changed for terrible windy and overcast.Time
This photo was taken on the morning in the last light of sunrise, before very bad weather. The first grey clouds are already on the picture.Lighting
I loved the quiet fjord, and the colours of the north- delicate like porcelain. I also liked composition of this view. Lonely houses almost on the end of the world in front of the mountains. Snow. Grey sky. Road was closed that day because of avalanche so it was great lonelines and peace. I also liked the light. In general I like day light and normality. I am not slave of golder hour. The most important for me is composition and something hard to define - emotion, feelings, something to consider about world, wilderness, people. I never make just pretty pictures- real beauty- yes, of course, but it should move.Equipment
I had old Canon 5D ( very good in this hard conditions), Canon 70-200 L and tripod.Inspiration
I write popular blog. I also publish words and photographs in the mountain and travel magazines. I always try to document my travels and to show the beauty of the places where I am. I also try to encourage others to follow the same routes. I am happy when my work helps. World is beautifull, wilderness is our treasure. I hope we all will try to protect it as much as we can.Editing
little adjustments as the photo was taken in RAW.In my camera bag
I am minimalist. I prefer to focus on the subject not on the equipment. so I have simple gear: camera (Canon 5d), 2 lenses: canon 70-200 L and Canon 17-40L) grey filter ND1000, and tripod. I also have many extra batteries (in the winter in Arctic even 10), remote release cable, some cleaning things. I try to avoid civilization so I also cary tent, food, gas, stove... usually 20 kg all together.Feedback
Arctic in the winter is great. It sounds very expensive but is not. In nordic countries "every man law" lets to pitch tent for one night in almost every places. There is many ski routes, some even marked in the winter. Thanks to it it is possible to be in real wilderness, with distance to civilization and roads. It is great feeling and great chance for good photographs. In the mountains light is always interesting, never flat. In cloudy days Arctic colours are delicate, like pastels. It is absolutly amazing place and whatever light you get it will be great.
