French Pyrenees near Bagneres de Luchon. It was during my summer holidays- hiking High Route (HRP).Time
It was afternoon. The valley was cloudy (perhaps raining) but we were high- above the clouds. We decided to stay and pitch tents instead going down into the clouds. I spent evening on the ridge. It was windy. Clouds were moving. Sometimes fog touched me, sometimes all was in the fog and in few minutes sky was blue. It was impossible to predict effect of long exposure, some photographs were just white, only few interesting- like this one.Lighting
it was difficult light- sun in front of me. I was trying to move a bit but this place was just the best to see the mountains, I was waiting untill sunset, but this image taken with the day light was the best one.Equipment
Old Canon 5D, my favored lens Canon 70-200 f 4L, Light and cheap tripod (I was hiking with everything in my backpack so every gram makes difference), and filter ND1000Inspiration
To be over clouds is always somehow magic- like to be in the heaven. It was our last day and I knew I will be missing Pyrenees soon. So I spend all this evening watching and I took some photographs with long exposure- showing the movement of cloudsEditing
Very little. I photograph in RAWs, so my photographs need some contrast and colour corrections, I also changed a bit white balance.In my camera bag
Camera (Canon 5D), two lenses 70-200L (always) and Canon 17-40 L(usually), sometimes Sigma EX 50 mm f 2,8 macro instead, little tripod (or anything else which lets me to fix my camera, sometimes home made device working together with my walking stick and ice axe, of just bag with oatmeat...), Filters: ND, polariser, sometimes IR, something to clean lenses, many batteries in the winter sometimes even 10. I do very long hikes fare from civilisation so charging is usually impossible. Cabel to use bulb. All that together with tent, sleeping bag, clouths, food for 5-10 days,pot, stove, gas... usually 17-21 kg.Feedback
take time, go high and wait. To be there, to experience freedom in the Nature is deeper and more valuable feeling then hunting for great views in rush. And forget comfort. Bad weather can be a good weather. In the mountains it is just question of altitude. In the Pyrenees top of the coluds is usually on 2000 m and there is always sun above the clouds.
