Behind The Lens

Location

Denali National Park in Alaska. It was part of a bus tour into the park. This was where to bus stops and turns around to head back to the entrance. in the foreground is North America's tallest peak, 20,310' Denali, formally known as Mount McKinley.

Time

It is that lovely time of year in Alaska where it is daylight all day long. This was about mid day.

Lighting

Not so much about the lighting as it was the cloud cover. The whole way into the part the mountain was covered in clouds. Just as we approached the clouds cleared somewhat giving me the opportunity. I like how the mountain is partially covered.

Equipment

Nikon D7100 with a Nikkor80-400 zoom. We didn't have much time at the site and it was very windy. No time to deploy tripod. I wish I could have.

Inspiration

The grandness of the mountain. Breathtaking.

Editing

I tonemapped this shot with Photomatix Pro to give more of the detail of the mountain and a bit of a painting look.

In my camera bag

I carry a Nikon D7100 and a D7200. I have a nice Nikkor 80-400mm zoom, wide angle 10-24mm, as well as the 18-140mm zoom that I took this shot with. I carry a Sirui tripod for when I travel. I should use it more than I do.

Feedback

Lots of things going against me. Short period of time, very windy and cold. Lots of people stayed in the bus but I had to go out and try. This one was more about timing than anything else.
