I took this photo in the Bakery and pastry museum in Medemblik, Holland.Time
It was around three o clock and it was a cloudy day. The light in the shop came from the lamps behind and above the counter.Lighting
I took this photo in the shop of the museum where they sell old kinds of sweets and home made pastry. The interior of the shop is authentic 1950 and maybe the only one that's left. I didn't use a flash because I wanted to capture the light just like it was.Equipment
I used my Lumix DMC-TZ60 free out of hand. There where a lot of people in the small shop, so I had to wait and take very quick shots whenever there was a free space.Inspiration
I liked the authenticity of the museum shop and wanted to capture the feeling I had when I was a child and stood in front of all that candy in bottles in our small town shop. As a child I saw nothing else but the sweet colors and I can remember the smell... the same sweet smell that was in this shop. So I tried to separate this part from the rest of the shop and capture that focus on the old magical counter with all that candy...Editing
I cropped the photo and played just a little bit with the contrast and colors. In my camera bag
I have a Lumix DMC TZ60, a little camera I like very much... The rest of the contents of my bag are inspiration, a good eye for detail and deep respect for the beauty of this wonderful world we are living in...Feedback
I tried to make a photo with the focus on the counter with all the sweet candy, I used the blue painted woodwork of the counter to create a frame. I took the photo with my back to the opposite wall because if you stand too close to the subject you want to photograph, the perspective gets distorted and the lines will not be vertical. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realise what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... And most of all, take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one, once you got home and opened your laptop, the magic of today's world begins... I allways crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!day when you can have a fresh look at them!
