Very nice capture of the light. I like the clarity of tree trunk textures, the green on the ferns and trees with the light shining down. Magnificent capture creating a mood within the woods. Well done.

Absolutely love this, the soft broken up light coming through the mist, the way it picks out the textures on the trunks and in the branches. Just superb.

Redwoods are best shot in fog/mist. This diffuses the light, hence preventing extremes of dynamic range that ruin most photographs taken in redwood forests.Equipment
Olympus OM-D EM-5, Olympus M. Zukio 9-18 f4-5.6 lens, Feisol tripod, polarizer filterInspiration
I see a lot of tonally unattractive photographs of redwoods, with too much detail, too much contrast, and not enough beauty. I wanted to take images of redwoods that not only captured their majesty, but were tonally beautiful, with no large areas of over-exposed hi-lights or detail impoverished shadows.Editing

In the summer on California's redwood coast, overcast often spreads a mile or so inland from the ocean. This overcast has a low ceiling, often as low as 500 feet. If you want to photograph redwoods in the fog, just find groves that are at the same elevation as the clouds. This will give you the best light for capturing these magnificent trees.
