The sun had just come up; but now fast moving clouds had covered it up. Everything was surprisingly dark, although the freshly fallen snow did present a bit of a glow. Optimal lighting conditions.Equipment

I always wanted to photograph Crater Lake after a fresh batch of snow had just fallen. When snow showers were forecast for the first weekend of Summer in 2012, I dropped everything and drove up to the lake in hope of getting shots like this.Editing
Darkened the sky a little and lightened the snow in the foreground a tad bit, all in Lightroom.In my camera bag

Photography is all about light; for landscape photography, light is determined by weather. So it makes sense to follow the weather quite closely in order to anticipate types of light and conditions one might run in to in the field. Webcams can also be a useful tool in monitoring weather and light.
