I took this photo in the Masai Mara during the time of the big migration.Time
We saw this young family of cheetahs in the late morning.Lighting
The light was pretty bright. The cheetahs came into sight , I got excited and forgot to check the ISO. The camera was set at ISO 640, f/9, 1/640.Equipment
I used a Nikon 800 with a AF-S VR Nikkor 600mm f/4G ED. I used a mounted tripod in the car, which was great.Inspiration
We watched a very young cheetah mother with 5 cubs. She walked around and did not pay much attention. There were many lions around ready to kill the young family. I am afraid that might have happened later. It was , however, a beautiful sight to see these young ones play around. It was the first time in my life, that I saw cheetahs in the wild. I will always cherish this moment.Editing
I used lightroom, to turn it into black and white and cropped the picture. In my camera bag
I usually carry two camera bodies , a Nikon 800 and a D4. Depending , where I go I take different lenses. My 600 mm lens is my favorite, which I can obviously not always bring along. In the summer always a macro lens. You never know, there might be an interesting insect.Feedback
Well, this picture required schlepping all the equipment to Africa, dealing with security at the airport, the weight of the equipment etc. And then it took the patience to be out in the nature and looking for interesting animals. I took quite some effort to get that picture and it was worth it. I just love to be out there, in particular in Kenya.
