Great shot. Birds are one of my favorite subjects and I know these fast moving guys are hard to capture.

This shot deserves a "Magnificent capture" but for some reason I can't award that til I upgrade. It is truly an incredible shot!

This is SO AMAZING! Along with being an incredible photo, it also tells the story of how plants and animals have evolved to help one another. This plant seems to have evolved into just the right shape for the hummingbird to help it pollinate. Great skill!

Location
In Costa rica during a hummingbird work shop with Ralph Paonessa. We spent 10 in the rain forest and the mountains for taking hummingbird pictures I lived for some time in California and had hummingbirds in my garden. I never managed to capture a good picture of them. It made me change from analogue to digital photography and participating in several work shops.Time
It was in the early afternoon.Lighting
I took the picture at Aperture f/22.0?ISO 200?Shutter 1/200, but with flash equipmentEquipment
I used my Nikon D800, a 400mm lens, a tripod and advanced flash equipment for humming bird photographyInspiration
I love humming birds. They are so delicate, elegant and beautiful. I saw, however, that they can be quite aggressive among themselves. I find it so fascinating that they are so active during the day, work so hard to have enough calorie input and "hibernate" during the night in order to save energy. Amazing.Editing
Not really. I cropped the photo a little, that was it.In my camera bag
I have Nikon cameras, D800, D5 and several lenses. 600mm, 200mm, macro etc. I do not like zoom lenses so much. The 600 mm lens is my favorite. I travelled to many places for crane photography, Germany, US, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kenya and always schlepped the 600 mm lens and a tripod, of course. I go to the gym on a regular basis, in order to have the strength to get the lens into the overhead compartment. I guess many happy moments are linked to that particular lens.Feedback
Well, you have to be ready to make an effort. In this case I had to travel a long distance, carry heavy equipment. I guess the conclusion is, you have to be ready to make an effort. I always think, that I need to like or love something or someone, in order to take a good picture. If I do not like a place, it just does not work. And the light has to be right. Light and love are the key to everything in photography, I think. Patience and interest follow.
